8 Signs You're Ready To Fly Solo

Flying solo for the first time is a big deal. Determining when you're ready is one of the toughest parts.

1) You've completed all of the required pre-solo training under FAR 61.87, and you've completed a pre-solo written test.

2) You can takeoff and land in crosswinds without breaking a sweat about going off the side of the runway.

3) You're feeling more confident, and you don't feel like you need help from your flight instructor in every part of a flight. Once you're solo, no one will be next to you for help!

4) You can handle simulated engine failures at any point in the traffic pattern.

5) Your instructor doesn't have to help on the controls anymore.

6) You consistently land with the centerline between the main landing gear within the first 1/3 of the runway.

7) You don't feel the need to "cram" in studying for your flight lessons.

8) Most of all...you feel confident in your skills, safety, and feel like you're ready to fly solo.
