Managing Engineering Prints is No-Problem with EDCS
Ideal Aerosmith, Inc. faced a difficult challenge: expand manufacturing operations from their East Grand Forks, MN headquarters to include facilities in Pittsburgh, PA; Menlo Park CA, and Phoenix, AZ. They needed to manufacture parts in all locations, while maintaining the highest level of quality control and meeting ISO 9001:200 compliance. How could they prevent staff in all locations from using obsolete drawings without slowing down their manufacturing process?
Ideal approached BoldMethod, LLC with this problem and we answered with EDCS – the Engineering Document Control System. Simply put, EDCS:
Tracks each part created by Ideal or any of their customers, integrating with Ideal’s ERP system
Adds a unique barcode to each part’s drawing, identifying the revision number
Allows users to scan barcodes and displays a green colored message if the drawing is good to use, or a red colored message if the drawing should not be used
Allows users to print large drawing packages quickly by tying to work orders and projects in Ideal’s ERP system
As with all BoldMethod projects, EDCS has changed over time to fit Ideal’s changing business. We’ve just released Version 3.0 – and look forward to new developments in the future! In addition, Ideal has partnered with BoldMethod to promote EDCS as a part of other customers' document solutions – helping us grow our business as we grow theirs.
